When we launched our Global open call, Women by Women, we wanted to create a collective movement around the initiative, involving organizations and people with similar goals, helping women creatives find a community and develop their artistic practice. As the postcolonial and transnational feminist and professor of women and gender studies Chandra Talpade Mohanty affirms, feminist solidarity must incorporate differences without deleting them. From this perspective, solidarity means constantly reflecting on the notion of feminism and what it means to be a woman, deconstructing cultures and beliefs, and questioning the structures we consider immutable. With this in mind, we contacted a series of different realities that focus on women artists, willing to exchange ideas and give them the space to propose their point of view. Although we share similar missions and core values, we believe differences are fertile for exploring new mindsets and looking at reality with a renewed gaze.

Every week, we’ll publish an interview with each organisation we had a conversation with, sharing their ideas and creating a virtual space of dialogue and mutual exchange.

When we launched our global open call Women by Women, we set out to create a collective movement around the initiative — involving organisations and individuals who share similar goals, and supporting women creatives in finding community and developing their artistic practice.

As postcolonial and transnational feminist scholar Chandra Talpade Mohanty affirms, feminist solidarity must incorporate differences without erasing them. From this perspective, solidarity means continuously reflecting on the notion of feminism and what it means to be a woman — deconstructing cultures and beliefs, and questioning the structures we often take for granted.

With this in mind, we reached out to a number of organisations focused on women photographers, inviting them to exchange ideas and offering them space to share their point of view. While we share similar missions and core values, we believe that differences are fertile ground for exploring new mindsets and seeing reality through a renewed gaze.

Starting this week, we’ll publish a series of interviews with the organisations we’ve been in dialogue with — sharing their perspectives and creating a virtual space for conversation and mutual exchange.
