Israel carried out a series of airstrikes on southern Syria on Tuesday after two projectiles were reportedly launched from Syrian territory into Israel. The Israeli military confirmed the strikes in a statement, saying they targeted weapon facilities of the Syrian government. The projectiles landed in open areas and did not cause any damage.

This marks the second time in a day that Israel responded with force. It remains unclear who was responsible for firing the projectiles, but the Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz, blamed it directly on Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

“We consider the president of Syria directly responsible for any threat and fire toward the State of Israel, and a full response will come soon,” Katz said in a statement.

However, the Syrian government denied any involvement. According to the state news agency SANA, the Syrian foreign ministry said the reports of projectiles being fired at Israel had not been verified. The ministry emphasised that “Syria has not and will not pose a threat to any party in the region.”

They further added, “We believe that there are many parties that may seek to destabilise the region to achieve their own interests.”
