AIIMS Bhopal has issued a cyber fraud alert after multiple fake social media profiles were found impersonating the institute’s Executive Director, Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh. The institute warned that cybercriminals are using these fake accounts to mislead people and extort money under false pretenses.
In an official statement released Tuesday evening, AIIMS Bhopal cautioned the public against responding to suspicious messages or friend requests from accounts bearing the name or photo of Prof Singh. The institute confirmed that anti-social elements have created at least three fake Facebook accounts over the past two days.
“These imposters are sending friend requests and then asking for money using various excuses,” said Prof Ajay Singh. “Unfortunately, this is not the first time such an incident has occurred. Similar fraudulent attempts have been made in the past using my name.”
AIIMS Bhopal urged individuals to verify any communication allegedly coming from Prof Singh and to immediately report suspicious activity to the authorities. The institute emphasised the importance of digital vigilance, especially as cyber fraud tactics become increasingly sophisticated.
Authorities have not yet confirmed how many individuals may have fallen victim to the scam, but the alert serves as a crucial reminder of the growing threats in the digital space.
