After teasing a baby blue-accented Asics Gel-Kayano 14 in May, Montreal design studio JJJJound has formally revealed Tuesday its latest collaboration with the Japanese sportswear company, and it turns out there’s even more to the project than originally expected.
The upcoming JJJJound x Asics Gel-Kayano 14 will include not one, but two colorways of the popular late-2000s running shoe. In addition to the previously previewed White/Blue style, JJJJound will also release a colorway it is dubbing White/Navy. Despite their similar color descriptions, both shoes are distinctly different through their use of accents and faux-aging.
The duo’s White/Navy look is made up of a white inline mesh base and metallic silver overlays with black debossed details, staples of the popular Gel-Kayano 14 model. Where things get interesting is the addition of a Midnight Navy on the shoe’s tiger stripes branding and liner, adding a subtle yet unique contrast to the look. The pair’s midsole, visible Gel cushioning and shoelaces come in an aged off-white look, and the sneaker also comes with alternate white laces for those who want to switch things up. Lastly, a Vibrant Yellow shade is used only on the insole branding and outsole, hiding much of the shoe’s lone pop of color.

Meanwhile, the second style is a White/Blue which also opts for a base of white mesh, metallic silver overlays and black debossing. This pair is kept more traditional with black tiger stripes branding, while a summer-ready light blue fills in all of the accents, including the sneaker’s Gel cushioning. Unlike the navy-accented style, the White/Blue pair does not feature off-white details, but it does come packaged with a secondary shoelace described as white with a light gray edge.
Asics’ Y2K-era sneakers have been inescapable in recent years. Despite a lack of concentrated marketing pushes, particularly for its more accessible in-line releases, the Japanese label has managed to win over consumers spanning generations and genders.
The JJJJound x Asics Gel-Kayano 14 collaboration will be released June 12 at 11 a.m. ET from jjjjound.com and will also be available from select global retailers. Retail pricing has not been announced; previous JJJJound x Asics Gel-Kayano 14s were priced at $180, but it’s possible the new installment will see a price hike.
