Nick Lachey revealed he became overwhelmed with emotion when he wrapped filming on his and ex-wife Jessica Simpson’s MTV reality series, “Newlyweds.”
The “Love Is Blind” host got candid about his experience on the early 2000s TV show on the “Richer Lives” podcast last week.
“I actually came to really love the crew,” Lachey said. “I remember crying the day we shut down because you develop relationships with them. They really became family.”
Lachey explained the close bond he formed with the production crew while filming three seasons of the series from 2003 to 2005 — after initially being told to ignore them.
“I remember at first they were like, ‘Don’t talk to the crew. They’re a fly on the wall!” he recalled.
“And I was like, ‘Guys, if this is ever going to work, that’s just not how I’m wired. You’re not going to be in my house and watch my every move, and we’re not going to talk to each other. We got to get past that right now.’”
Elsewhere in the podcast, Lachey shared that the success of “Newlyweds” was “totally unexpected.”
“My ex-wife had an album coming out, I had an album coming out,” he said.
“We had no idea it was going to take on this other life of being this reality fly-on-the-wall type of show.”
Lachey, now 51, and Simpson, now 44, tied the knot in 2002 and split in 2006.
At the time, they released a statement saying they were separating after “careful thought and consideration,” per People.
Lachey admitted he still has “scars” from their divorce during Season 3 “The Ultimatum,” which dropped on Netflix last December.
The 98 Degrees alum tied the knot with Vanessa Lachey in 2011, and they share three kids: Camden John, 12, Brooklyn Elisabeth, 10, and Phoenix Robert, 8.
Simpson, meanwhile, married Eric Johnson in 2014, and they also share children: Maxwell Drew, 12, Ace Knute, 11, and Birdie Mae, 6.
The “Dukes of Hazzard” star announced her separation from Johnson in January after 10 years of marriage.
