Union home minister Amit Shah, during a two-day visit to West Bengal, inaugurated the new Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) building in Rajarhat near Kolkata on Sunday. Addressing the gathering, Shah said that India’s criminal justice system is entering a new era—one that is secure, transparent, and grounded in scientific evidence. “The government has prioritised an evidence-based system. Those who stop crime must stay two steps ahead of those committing it,” he said. Shah added that the new facility will not only serve Bengal but also the entire Northeast region. He highlighted the establishment of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in 2020, saying that eight forensic institutions are already functional across India, with eight more in the pipeline. “I believe the new students will contribute to our law and order,” Shah noted. Shah also pointed out that forensic vans were being set up in every district to ensure timely and efficient crime investigation. “Our duty is to ensure that every poor person can get justice as soon as possible. I believe that we will create an environment where our people will trust the law and order of the country,” he said.Shah arrived in Kolkata on Saturday night. His visit to the state comes just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi toured North Bengal. The visits are seen as part of BJP’s early groundwork for the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections.
