The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday announced the formation of a State Prohibition Council to promote awareness and formulate policy direction on alcohol prohibition. The council has been constituted for a three-year term.
“To make prohibition (anti-liquor) programs successful and to create a conducive environment for them, the formation of the State Level Prohibition Council was done under Office Memorandum No. 830/26-2-2025-275(8)/2007, dated 29.05.2025, for a period of 3 years,” the official notice read in hindi.
BJP leader from Auraiya, Brijesh Shukla, has been named the Vice-Chairman of the council.
“In this regard, with immediate effect, Mr. Brijesh Shukla, son of Mr. Rajendra Kumar Shukla, resident of Devpur Phaphund, District – Auraiya, is hereby nominated by Her Excellency the Hon’ble Governor for the post of Vice Chairman of the State Prohibition Council for a period of 1 year, and approval is granted for the same,” the notice added.
The council will advise the state on effective strategies to curb alcohol consumption and promote de-addiction awareness programs.
It is part of the state government’s broader social welfare and public health initiatives.
