They belong with her.
In an emotional letter shared on her website Friday, Taylor Swift announced that she’d finally bought back her masters. The pop icon marked the milestone by sharing several new photos of herself surrounded by her first six albums, the rights to which were sold to record exec Scooter Braun in 2019 (and one year later to Shamrock Capital, which struck the new deal with Swift).
And in true Taylor Swift style, she celebrated her victory while decked out in several pieces of particularly symbolic jewelry — including one of her many ancient coin necklaces, a silver pendant from Steven Battelle that she first wore to a Chiefs game in January.
“The image on that particular pendant is of the goddess Roma,” Battelle told Page Six Style earlier this year. “She was believed to watch over the city’s citizens and protect them from harm, as well as being a fierce defender of Rome in war.”
The reverse side of the antique coin, struck in 109-108 BC during the Roman Republic, depicts the winged goddess of victory, Victoria.
The themes of battle and triumph surely resonate with Swift in this particular moment. In a 2019 open letter, she called Braun’s acquisition of her masters her “worst case scenario,” claiming that he and his clients at the time — including Kanye West and Justin Bieber — had subjected her to years of “incessant, manipulative bullying.”
Braun’s purchase drove Swift to re-record and re-release four of her earlier albums as “Taylor’s Versions,” a massive (and massively successful) project that helped inspire her equally ambitious, record-breaking, billionaire-making Eras Tour.
Now that she’s also regained control of her complete musical catalog, calling Swift the victor would be an understatement.
In the new photos, the “Love Story” singer also sports her diamond-studded Tiffany & Co. ring featuring two side-by-side Ts — a nod to her individuality and strong self of self, or perhaps to the strength of her relationship with partner Travis Kelce, with whom she shares a first initial. (The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was quick to “like” Swift’s post announcing her masters deal.)
On her other hand, the Grammy winner wears a sparkling evil eye ring by Jacquie Aiche, one of several pieces she owns set with the meaningful motif.
Having originated in ancient Mesopotamia roughly 5,000 years ago, the evil eye has long symbolized protection and vigilance; according to Aiche, it also represents confidence, new beginnings and enlightenment.
Now that she’s won the years-long battle for her masters, it would appear, Swift can finally step into the daylight and let it go.
