John Abraham and Sadia Khateeb did an excellent job in the portrayals of ‘J.P. Singh’ and ‘Uzma Ahmed’ in the movie The Diplomat. The movie not only left people hooked to the screens but also triggered a past from 2017 when the headlines were filled with back-to-back and minutes-to-minute updates about an Indian girl, Uzma Ahmed. Uzma fell in love with a Pakistani man, and reached there, only to get deceived and tortured. Well, she showed courage and reached the Indian High Commission office, to request the officials for her safe return to India. Indian diplomat J.P. Singh fought a tough battle to ensure Uzma’s return, and the incident is still fresh in every Indian’s mind.
When Tahir Ali shared proof of Uzma Ahmed knowing about his four kids even before reaching Pakistan
Uzma Ahmed, while doing a course in Malaysia, fell in love with a Pakistani man, Tahir Ali, who was a taxi driver. Uzma’s first marriage was already broken by then, and she had a daughter, who was suffering from thalassemia. Tahir became her support and promised her that he would help her in her daughter’s treatment in Buner, Pakistan. Uzma, believing in him, reached Pakistan, but her world turned upside down when she found out that Tahir was already married with four kids.
While Uzma Ahmed revealed multiple times that she was cheated by Tahir, who hid the fact that he was married, Tahir, on the other hand, revealed some alleged chats with her. The chats were circulated back in 2017, and in one of the chats, which Tahir claimed to be of Uzma, she was seen asking him to hide information about his kids from her brother, and telling him that he’s a graduate. In the alleged chats which Tahir revealed, the message could be read as:
“Agar bhai ka phone ay tumarare paas to ye mat bolna k tumare 4bachche h or na apni biwi k bare me kuch bata na or study ager puchhe to graduation batana..”

Uzma Ahmed revealed Tahir Ali forcefully married her and she was tortured to the very end, which Tahir denied
Uzma Ahmed had shared multiple times that she was kept in Buner, and was tortured to the very end every day and night. She also stated that Tahir forcefully married her at the gunpoint. Tahir, on the other hand, in an interview with Newslaundry back in 2017, stated that he and Uzma got married three days after she went to Pakistan. Tahir also shared that they had been in a relationship for nine months in Malaysia, and stayed together for two months. He also said that during that course of time, he told Uzma about his previous marriage and the purdha culture. Tahir could be quoted as saying:
“I discussed everything with her during these months……….I told her that I was already married and that she would be my second wife………….I also told her that she would have to observe strict Purdah after getting married with me……..no matter we live in Malaysia or Buner, she would have to observe purdah (veil)…..this is part of our Pukhtun tradition. But regarding Purdah, there cannot be any leniency…….our women folk observe Purdah wherever they go.”

How did Uzma Ahmed reach India with the help of J.P Singh?
Uzma was kept in Buner, a place where normal Pakistanis are scared to go. She revealed that there was not a single day when she was not tortured by Tahir and others. She also added that she made a plan, and tricked Tahir to take her to the Indian High Commission office in Islamabad, stating his Indian brother would give them dowry. Tahir, being a greedy man, agreed to the same and took her to the office. Uzma, then shared her side of the story there to the officers, and requested her safe return to India. After a thorough background check on her, Uzma was given a place in the office. Later, through a tough battle, J.P Singh helped her to reach India.
