German tennis player Steffi Graf won the French Open six times before she retired. During the 1989 tournament, Graf wore this Adidas look featuring a white polo shirt and skirt with an ’80s eccentric pattern on the top of the polo and near the hem of the skirt.

Throughout her professional career, tennis player and grand slam champion Maria Sharapova was known for her feminine sartorial statements. At the 2006 French Open, the athlete fashioned this peach Nike tennis dress with a flowing, semi-sheer and pleated skirt.

For the 2010 French Open, seven-time grand slam singles champion Venus Williams wore a design from her own fashion label, Eleven. The tennis pro wore a look with lingerie inspiration, including a black lace dress with floral detail and a flirty hemline and exposed red boning on the bodice of the dress.

23-time grand slam singles champion Serena Williams made waves when she wore this Nike catsuit to the French Open in 2018. The look featured all-black fabric with a red waist band. Additionally, the catsuit featured compression elements to help Williams’ body readjust to tennis matches less than one year after her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., was born in September 2017.

Coco Guaff embraced color and pattern at the 2022 French Open. The tennis star, who went on to win the 2023 U.S. Open, fashioned a look by New Balance, which included a purple fitted top with black patterning, coordinated shorts in a shade of green and a flowing sheer and pleated skirt.

At the 2025 French Open, Naomi Osaka took inspiration from Japan’s Sakura season for her pink Nike kit. Co-designed by the four-time grand slam champion, Osaka’s kit feature the athlete’s Nike Women’s GP Challenge 1 Osaka Tennis shoes featured shades of dusty cactus and dark team red with sakura-inspired references, a nod to the cherry blossoms in Japan. Osaka’s sleeveless kit featured a soft shade of pink with contrasted deep tones with coordinated pink Nike sweatbands on her wrists.
“Thank you [Nike] for letting me draw this fit and trusting me enough to bring it to life (literally don’t know why you guys are always so kind to me),” Osaka wrote in an Instagram post. The tennis player also thanked hair stylist Marty Harper “for coming through and turning me into Sailor Moon (it’s giving mahou shoujo),” Osaka wrote, referencing the popular Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi.
