A bruised Elon Musk drew attention during a White House appearance on Friday, prompting curiosity and questions from reporters about his visibly blackened right eye.
Musk, appearing alongside former President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, humorously revealed that the injury came from a playful moment with his 5-year-old son, X.
“We were horsing around, and I said, ‘Go ahead, punch me in the face.’ And he did,” Musk said, chuckling.
Trump, amused, chimed in, “That was X that did that? …X could do it. If you knew X.”
Musk later clarified that he didn’t feel the punch much at the time, but the bruise appeared later.
Initially asked about the bruise, Musk deflected with his signature dry humor, joking, “I wasn’t anywhere near France,” referencing a recent viral clip where French President Emmanuel Macron was slapped by his wife, a comment that drew laughs.
The light-hearted exchange occurred during an event marking Musk’s departure from his formal cost-cutting role within the Trump administration.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO led a controversial initiative to slash federal spending, which stirred major restructuring across several agencies, though it fell short of delivering the sweeping savings he had aimed for.
