In a shocking twist, two of the biggest concerts lined up at Boston’s historic Fenway Park this week were cancelled mere hours before doors opened.
Global pop icon Shakira was initially prepared to open the 2025 Fenway Concert Series on Thursday, May 29, while country music superstars Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn were to perform on Friday, May 30.
Live Nation Releases Brief Statement
Concert promoter Live Nation released a brief statement confirming the cancellations Thursday afternoon, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Shakira and Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn show initially scheduled for May 29th and May 30th respectively, at Fenway Park, has been cancelled. Refunds will be issued at your point of purchase. We regret the disruption.”
No further information was given, and the reason for the last-minute cancellations is not yet clear.
Stages Set, But No Show
There had been excitement throughout the week, with the stage already in place within Fenway Park for Shakira’s concert, part of her global “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” (Women No Longer Cry) tour. The show was set to be an energetic kick-off concert.
The last-minute cancellations angered fans, who had some travel or had made special arrangements to see the concerts.
The Artists Remain Silent So Far
Up to Thursday evening, neither Shakira nor Jason Aldean or Brooks & Dunn had issued any statements regarding the cancellations. News stations, such as NBC10 Boston, still track for updates or remarks from the artists and their representatives.
What’s the Next Move for the Fenway Series?
Fenway Park has a complete concert roster in the works for the summer, but these two major shows’ unexpected cancellations have put the rest of the schedule on trial for possible disruptions.
