Mohan Babu’s name recently came up in relation to actress, Soundarya’s death in 2004 after a man filed a complaint against the actor. Soundarya’s then-husband, Raghu GS, came forward and called the allegations baseless. However, the incident brought back immense pain for the Manchu family. In an interview with SCREEN, Mohan Babu’s son, Vishnu Manchu, shared about the same and revealed that Soundarya’s death came as a shock to all of them.

During the conversation, Vishnu Manchu revealed how Soundarya’s death broke his father, Mohan Babu’s heart. He revealed that a ‘madman’ filed a complaint against his father two decades after the incident took place, yet somehow, it became national news. He added that despite the police confirming that the complainant was mentally unstable, the media questioned his father. He stated:
“In our country, the media often forgets journalism ethics to sensationalise news. A ‘madman’ randomly went and complained against my father in connection with Soundarya’s death almost 20 years after the incident. While it became national news, even the police confirmed he was mentally unstable and dismissed the complaint.”
In the same conversation, Vishnu Manchu recalled how close his father, Mohan Babu, was with Soundarya. He revealed that Mohan stopped filming midway because of the actress’ sudden passing. Vishnu shared that when someone came and told him what had happened, he couldn’t believe it as she was supposed to shoot with them later in the week. However, no one dared to break the news to his father, so he did, and the veteran actor started weeping profusely. He stated:
“At this time, Dad was shooting for a film. Everyone on his film set got to know about her death except my father. Nobody dared break this news to him. I quietly went and sat next to him. He asked me, ‘What happened?’ I looked at the director, who gestured at me to break the news to him, and I did. As soon as I told my father, he began to howl. He was very close to her.”

In the same conversation, Vishnu Manchu revealed that it was extremely strange when such an old incident suddenly resurfaced and became the national news. He added that it was very hurtful. However, to him, the ‘madman’ was not the main culprit; it was the media that gave him the footage. He recalled the trauma and pain his family went through and revealed how they had to reach out to Soundarya’s husband, Raghu GS, to give a statement so the matter could be laid to rest. He was quoted as saying:
“For the last 15 years, we were not in touch with Soundarya’s husband. We had to call him. I said, ‘Uncle, I am sorry for troubling you like this, but you will have to give a statement.’ Even he was upset with the news. He has moved on with another marriage and family.”

Talking about further controversies, Vishnu added that he is not new to controversies or rumours against his father. He added that they take it in stride, and even his children are used to it now. The Manchu family had previously been in the news for a public clash between him and his half-brother, Manoj.
