400 people baraat jammed Wall Street in New York
A video of the event has been going viral on social media, wherein New York’s iconic Wall Street was jammed by 400 Indians, who were taking the baraat at the bride’s place. The groom was dressed up in a traditional ivory-hued sherwani. However, it was the DJ spinning a mix of Bollywood and pop music as people danced in joy, and it halted the famous street.
We also got a glimpse of the bride, who was dressed up in a beautiful red-hued signature Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s lehenga. She looked simply on point with party makeup that accentuated her look. The ladies danced their hearts out with the couple of the hour while others made videos and clicked photographs. The DJ, who performed at the wedding, shared the video, and wrote:
“We shut down Wall Street for a 400-person baraat – who would’ve ever thought? Definitely a once-in-a-lifetime kind of magic.”

Another Instagram influencer, Devarshi Shah, who is also a Gujarati actor, shared a glimpse of the event. The groom was seen dancing, and his American groomsman held him on his shoulder. The groomsmen were also dressed up in pink and white-hued ethnic outfits.
As soon as the video was shared, netizens rushed in to share their opinion. One user wrote, “Indians have all the money anywhere and everywhere. loving this.” A second penned, “The first NRIs with real style AND swag- Waaah!” A third pointed, “For god sake, NRIs can’t even do basic baraat dance!” Another one commented, “Yes true. All this flaunting wealth and lifestyle when the average American citizen is trying to make a living is bound to make an impact. That explains why immigrants were a stepping stone for trump and he’s using it to stamp Indians down ( lived in USA and still have family there. We chose to keep a low profile. Some don’t seem to get it).”
More about Indian baraat
For the unversed, baraat is the most important part of a Santani wedding or a Hindu wedding. The groom’s family attends it, as the groom-to-be sits on a horse, and the family escorts him to the bride’s place to marry her. The baraat involves dhol, naach-gaana by the entire groom’s family. Before sitting on the horse, the sister of the groom feeds daal-channa to the horse. And bhabhis put kaala teeka on the nape of the groom to protect him from all the evil eyes.
