Sally LaPointe has a new office. It’s one floor down from where she was a year ago, but the space is vastly different. Not only does it feel like twice the size of her previous headquarters, but the massive floor-to-ceiling windows makes it feel warmer, perhaps symbolizing the start of an even sunnier year for LaPointe, who reports that she’s doing well at retail.
For resort, the designer wanted to focus on making the things that she and her customers love. “Pre-collections are always a joy for me. Being able to just zero in on the fashion and deliver things that I know my woman will love is very satisfying,” she said. Many of her favorite statement pieces returned this season but in comfortable versions. New this season was eveningwear in a very luxe and thick jersey that really contours the body. Her color palette—bold turquoise and burgundy with a slight sheen—added to the statement-making effect.
LaPointe is known for her sexy designs, but this season there was a wider breadth of styles on offer, including a mini-shift dress with her signature feather trim that was very uptown in style. Similarly, the brand is proving to be a big hit in the Middle East, thanks to her lightweight caftans and capes, which this season she produced in even more colors and variations. LaPointe may have conquered New York City’s fashionistas, but the international ones aren’t far behind.
