Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde are currently shooting for their upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. Directed by David Dhawan, the rom-com also stars Mouni Roy and is scheduled to release in theatres on April 10, 2026. The film has already grabbed attention for bringing back the popular 90s song ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ from Biwi No. 1, originally composed by Anu Malik. The recreated version will be a part of the new film’s soundtrack.

However, the original singer of the song, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, has now reacted to the remake. In a conversation with HT City, the veteran singer revealed that he was not informed about the new version. He said, “Mujhe music composer, film ke director kisi ne nahin bataya ki iss song ko remake kiya jaa raha hai. Himmat bhi nahin kar sakte batane ki.” (Neither the music composer nor the film’s director told me about the remake. They don’t even have the courage to tell me.)
Abhijeet also reflected on the popularity of the track over the years. “For the past 25 years, I have heard it being played at functions and parties, and would always think, ‘What is it about the song? There was nothing that I remember from the time I sang it.’ But I do realise it has become iconic for fans,” he shared.

Speaking further on the trend of recreating songs, the singer added, “Mujhe farak nahin padhta itni chhoti cheez se. I don’t get involved much. In the market, copies are sold more than the original. Only great people know the value of the original. Tuchhi cheez mein main padhta hi nahin hoon.”
Coming back to the film, the first poster of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai was recently unveiled. The caption read, “Double the trouble, triple the fun! Jab Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai hits cinemas on 10th April 2026.”
