A drunk driver rammed into oncoming traffic on a one-way street near Jyoti Nivas College in Bengaluru’s Koramangala area, injuring a policeman. The incident occurred around midnight Saturday. The accused, identified as Nanda Krishna, reportedly lost control of the vehicle as he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

According to sources in the police department, he also refused to cooperate with the police. Despite repeated warnings, he did not roll down his window and even tried to drive over the officers. His car hit a barricade and another vehicle ahead, causing further damage.

Police eventually broke the window and took him into custody. A case has been registered at Adugodi Traffic Police Station.

Video of the incident has gone viral on social media, with many calling for stricter laws on drink-driving.

A user wrote, “Unacceptable . Heavy fines to be introduced for drunk driving . And revoking of licenses for at least a year.”

Recalling the Porsche incident from Pune last year, a user wrote, “There is no strict law against drink and drive. We all saw what happened in the Porsche car accident. Now the question is will our court grant him bail in a few hours or not.”

The incident comes just weeks after the Bengaluru Traffic Police conducted a week-long special drive between April 21 and 27 to curb drunk driving and overspeeding. During the drive, police checked over 43,000 vehicles and registered 668 cases of drunk driving and 185 cases of overspeeding. They also collected Rs 1.89 lakh in fines from motorists.
