After Russia launched its biggest airstrike on Ukraine since the beginning of the war, US President Donald Trump, who had previously shown patience with Russian President Vladimir Putin, lost his cool.
Speaking to reporters at the Morristown airport in New Jersey on Sunday, Trump criticised Putin, saying, “I’m not happy with Putin.”
“He’s killing a lot of people. And I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin! I’ve known him a long time. Always gotten along with him. But he’s sending rockets into cities and killing people. And I don’t like it at all,” he said.
“We’re in the middle of talking and he’s shooting rockets into Kiev and other cities! I don’t like it at all. I don’t like what Putin is doing, not even a little bit. He’s killing people. And something happened to this guy, and I don’t like it,” he added.
Overnight Sunday, Russia launched 367 drones and missiles across Ukraine, striking multiple cities, including Kyiv, the country’s capital.
At least 12 people were killed in the attack, and many others were injured. The Ukrainian Air Force claimed to have shot down 45 missiles and destroyed 266 drones, but several areas were still badly hit.
The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that over 30 cities and villages were affected by the strikes.
ZELENSKYY SLAMS US ‘SILENCE’
Earlier, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said he was disappointed with the international response, particularly the US. He cautioned that without more forceful action, Russia’s ongoing brutality could not be stopped.
“The world may go on vacation, but the war continues, despite weekends and weekdays,” Zelenskyy said. “This cannot be ignored. America’s silence, and the silence of others in the world, only encourages Putin.”
He added that the strikes will continue unless there is serious pressure on the Russian leadership. The military of Ukraine claims that the strikes, which started on Saturday night, have impacted almost every area of the nation.
Trump, who has recently attempted to broker a war ceasefire, spoke with Putin last week, which lasted more than two hours. In an effort to get both sides to the negotiating table, he has also been in touch with Zelenskyy.
“Always gotten along with him, but he’s sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don’t like it at all,” Trump said about Putin.
However, peace efforts suffered a setback when Putin failed to show up for a scheduled peace meeting in Turkey. Despite calls from the international community, Russia has continued to escalate its attacks, showing little interest in ending the conflict.
However, Putin’s absence from a planned peace conference in Turkey was a big blow to peace efforts. Russia has shown little interest in putting an end to the conflict and has escalated its attacks despite calls from top leaders.
