Rajesh Roshan has composed songs for the Hindi film industry for more than 50 years. He was 18 when, back in 1974, the composer composed his first track for Kunwara Baap. It was in 1976 when he won a Filmfare Award for Julie, and with that, he beat the soundtracks of Sholay and Khel Khel Mein by RD Burman. The composer has turned a year older on May 24, 2025 and had once revealed how he gained success as a composer.
When Rajesh Roshan revealed how he survived as a music composer in the industry
Rajesh had gained a lot of confidence when his brother, Rakesh, had become a director. His motto was to get singers based on how they sang and not become a fan of trends. He created melodious tracks back in the 1980s when late Bappi Lahiri gained fame in the disco music era, and Rajesh Roshan also ruled the supremacy. During an earlier interview with Scroll. In, Rajesh shared:
“I try to adapt. When disco came, even I had to work according to it. So I made┬аDisco 82 for┬аKhud-Daar. It got so popular, people think itтАЩs for a movie called┬аDisco 82. I asked Lata ji to sing it, and she just wouldnтАЩt, saying Raju, your taste has become so bad, what are you asking me to sing? I said, disco is in now, you will be left behind like this, chalo mere saath. Then I made many other such fast songs.┬аJab Chhaye Mera Jadoo for┬аLootmaar.┬аSara Zamana for┬аYaarana.┬аHum To Aapke Deewane Hain for┬аAap Ke Deewane.”
When Rajesh Roshan credited his brother, Rakesh Roshan, for his confidence
Rajesh always believed in trying something new and revealed how he could not get Arijit Singh’s dates for the title song of Kaabil. It was tough for the composer to find a singer like Arijit, and that’s where he saw Jubin Nautiyal at an award function. Rajesh believed in experimenting and credited his brother for giving him confidence. Rajesh always believed in making a new form of music and had further said:
“We used Nitin Mukesh and then a newcomer Sadhana Sargam for┬аKhudgarz. Then Lucky Ali in┬аKaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. Even today, I try to make new kinds of music. With Covid-19, itтАЩs difficult to get musicians and singers together in a room, so now IтАЩm working from home. Here too, I am adapting.тАЭ
Rajesh always had the art of reading music composers across different generations and was always inspired by their style. He knew the art of surviving the 1980s disco music era when music composers did not rise up, and Rajesh’s tracks were all matching with the latest trends.

When a young Rajesh Roshan used to scream at Kishore Da at screenings
Rajesh was very young when he created the tune of┬аDil Kya Kare, 1975, Julie and presented the tune to Anand Bakshi. He had reportedly heard the tune with a lot of fear, but then liked the same, and the lyrics were penned in two hours. Rajesh revealed:
“We used a 100-piece orchestra for the song. Till date, itтАЩs one of the best songs sung by Kishore [Kumar] da. When he sang it, I was over the moon. I was very, very young at the time, so I couldnтАЩt resist myself during screenings, shouting, wah, Kishore da, kamaal kar diya aapne.”
Team BollywoodShaadis wishes Rajesh Roshan a very happy birthday!
