Mukul Dev shared he was in the fourth rank to be a commercial pilot in the country
In an interview with Eastern Eye back in 2020, Mukul Dev talked about becoming a pilot. He said that he could never forget giving the exam and clearing it out, and that too, scoring fourth rank among many pilots across the country. He stated that he was thrilled to know that he would be a commercial pilot, and he could never forget this journey, which he began before becoming an actor. In Mukul Dev’s words:
“I was a pilot before I became an actor. So I will never forget clearing my flying academy exams and getting a scholarship to become a commercial pilot. I could have not have asked for anything better. I was ranked number four among so many pilots across the country, from one of the best training schools called Indira Gandhi Udaan Academy. I was so thrilled to know that I would be a commercial pilot.”
Mukul Dev talked about escaping death during his training as a pilot
In the same interview, Mukul Dev shared that it was a proud moment for him when he first time, flew a plane solo back in 1991. The actor mentioned that there’s no greater joy than being able to fly a plane solo after training when the instructor lets someone fly it all by himself or herself.
Going forward in the interview, Mukul Dev shared a horrific experience. He revealed that he would never be able to forget this memory, which was not a good one. He mentioned that during his training days, an emergency occurred when they were flying from Rai Bareilly in the north to the southern coast, and just before hitting Trivandrum, they caught up in really bad weather.

Mukul said that they had no idea how to land the plane, and only they knew how they could manage it during that time. Mukul shared that it was the first time ever that he witnessed death in front of his eyes, and after the same experience, he learned to be grateful to be alive. Mukul could be quoted as saying:
“While training as a pilot, I had another moment which was so memorable. It wasn’t a happy one though. An emergency occurred when we were flying from Rai Bareilly in the north to the southern coast. And before we hit Trivandrum, there was really bad weather. We were in such a lurch. We were rookies and had no idea how to land. How we managed to land the aircraft that was in a hellish situation in the air is something I can never forget. That was the closest I have been to seeing death right in front of my eyes. I can never forget that. Experiences like that make you more grateful to be alive, so shouldn’t be forgotten.”
