In a beautiful moment of harmony that has been winning hearts all over the nation, a Muslim family came to the rescue of a Hindu couple, whose wedding rituals were disrupted by a sudden downpour in Pune. Amid the ongoing tensions between Hindus and Muslims, which intensified after the Pahalgam attack on April 22, 2025, this moment of kindness comes as a breath of fresh air for all.
Muslim family halts walima, offers the stage to Hindu couple for saptapadi ceremony
As per reports, this heartwarming interfaith wedding union happened on Tuesday evening, on May 20, 2025. The Hindu couple, Sanskruti Kawade and Narendra Galande, were moments away from tying the knot at the open-air venue of Alankaran Lawns in Wanawadi, Pune, when the skies opened up. In no time, the roofless mandap was flooded, and guests were running for shelter.
During the same time, joy was in full swing in a wedding hall just next door, where a Muslim wedding reception, the walima of the couple, Maheen and Mohsin Kazi, was underway in a covered venue. Amid the chaos that was unfolding outside, desperate for help, some members of the Hindu wedding party approached the Kazi family with an unusual request. They asked the family if they could borrow the stage to complete the saptapadi ritual, or the saat phere of the Hindu couple, who were scheduled to get married at 6.56 p.m. A guest from the Galande-Patil family said:
“There was chaos around the venue. Nearby, in the hall, the ‘walima’ ceremony was going on. We requested the Kazi family to allow us to use the hall for some time to perform the ‘saptapadi’ ritual.”
Without hesitation, the Kazi family said yes. Not only did the family vacate the stage, but their guests also helped rearrange the setup, ensuring every tradition was respectfully followed. For over an hour, the Muslim wedding paused to make space for another couple’s big moment. The evening turned into a beautiful celebration with shared spirits of two faiths under one roof. Shantaram Kawade, a relative of the bride, told India Today TV:
“The Muslim community made their hall available for us, which allowed our wedding ceremony to take place smoothly. Even their guests help us make arrangements for the rituals on stage. The rituals were performed with full respect for each other’s traditions.”

Hindu-Muslim guests join for a grand feast
Once the rituals were completed, the celebration turned into a joint feast, with members of both communities sharing laughter, food, and even the stage for photographs. The two newlywed couples, Maheen and Mohsin, and Sanskruti and Narendra, posed together, capturing a frame that spoke louder than words. Farukh Kazi, a retired police officer and the father of the Muslim groom, called the Hindu bride, Sanskruti, like his own daughter, and that it was like attending his daughter’s wedding. Chetan Kawade, the bride’s father, told the media:
“Only in India could two families from different religions come together like this!”
At a time when differences often make the news, this story serves as a heartfelt reminder that kindness needs no religion. Let us know your views on this unexpected interfaith moment.
