Suniel Shetty is one of the most respected stars in the Hindi film industry admired for his honesty, versatile acting skills and commitment towards his work. Known for his straightforward and grounded attitude since the beginning of his career in the ’90s, the actor has rarely been a part of any controversy. However, Suniel recently got caught in a fix after he made a comment about his daughter, Athiya, choosing ‘natural delivery’ over ‘comfort of C-section’. It didn’t go down well with the netizens, who felt he was disrespecting the mothers who undergo C-sections and began to criticise him. Following the trolling, Suniel has now shared his side of the story on the issue.
Suniel Shetty claims his words were ‘blown out of proportion’
After Suniel Shetty praised his daughter for going for a natural delivery over a caesarean section, he was criticised by many netizens, especially women. They slammed him for commenting on a woman’s body without knowing about what they go through. Consequently, in a recent interview with Moneycontrol, Suniel Shetty was asked about his reaction to the same. In turn, he said that his words were taken in the wrong context and the issue was unnecessarily exaggerated. In his words:
“It has been completely blown out of proportion. Just tell me, if someone goes through surgery, wouldn’t I know the outcome? It’s a 200-word or more interview in which I discuss the importance of a young father or man-to-be seeing his wife’s delivery. That’s what elevates his wife to a pedestal: not only love but respect for the rest of his life. That’s why maa ko devi ka darja diya jata hai — that’s all I had said.”
He went on to add that some people purposely took some specific lines from his words and twisted them to present them differently. Suniel mentioned that such incidents are the reason why performers do not come forward to comment on national issues. Despite feeling that he didn’t make a mistake, the actor went ahead and apologised to women who might have got hurt by his words. At the same time, Suniel added that he didn’t mean to undermine the need or strength which goes into C-section. He said:
“So, to all individuals who were offended—even if I did not make a mistake—I will sincerely apologise to all the ladies out there because I honestly appreciate and revere them.”
What did Suniel Shetty say about ‘C-section’?
In a previous interview with News 18, Suniel Shetty opened up about how he was surprised to witness his daughter, Athiya Shetty’s strength as a new mother. He shared that while people choose to go with the comfort of a C-section, she went for a natural delivery despite the doctor and nurses suggesting otherwise. The Border actor also gushed about how his daughter is a wonderful mother and never looked tired or made any complaint over the new responsibilities in her life. For those unaware, Athiya Shetty and her husband, KL Rahul, welcomed a baby girl, Evaarah, in March 2025. Suniel said:
“In a world where everybody wants the comfort of having a caesarean baby, she chose not to do that and had a natural delivery. I remember how every nurse and paediatrician in the hospital said that it was unbelievable how she went through the whole process.”
