Some gold cards were sold in the Middle East during President Trump’s trip, Howard Lutnick said.

Commerce secretary Howard Lutnick has provided the latest update on the Trump gold card, which will give wealthy non-Americans the easiest way to get US citizenship in exchange of $5 million. At an Axios event, Lutnick said he believed that the website would be called ‘Trump card dot gov’ and it will be launched in a week. “The details of that will come soon after, but people can start to register,” Lutnick said.

Major frenzy about Trump gold card

Trump announced the new gold card visa program in February. “We’re going to be putting a price on that card of about $5 million and that’s going to give you green card privileges, plus it’s going to be a route to citizenship. And wealthy people will be coming into our country by buying this card,” Trump said at that time. In the beginning, it created a lot of chatter over the legality of such a visa plan that can be bought and that will also replace the existing EB-5 immigrant investor visa. Trump teased the golden card, revealing its first look — building the hype about it. EB-5v immigrant visa is for those who invest $1.8 million into the US or $900,000 into economically distressed zones. Lutnick said there is already strong interest in the program and he was selling these cards in the Middle East during their recent trip. “Basically, everyone I meet who is not an American is going to want to buy this card if they have the fiscal capacity,” Lutnick said. The commerce secretary said the gold card program will get money to the US and could help pay down the US federal debt which currently totals over $36 trillion. “These are going to be great people who are going to come and bring businesses and opportunity to America, and they’re going to pay $5 million,” Lutnick said. “If there are 200,000 people who pay, that’s a trillion dollars. That pays for everything.”
