Buns, bangs, and bold lips – The 2025 Cannes Film Festival is upping the beauty game with unforgettable looks from global movie stars, models, filmmakers, and jury members. So far, red carpet trends have settled somewhere between sunny and sultry, with bronzed cheekbones and messy eyeshadow dominating the scenes outside various premieres and parties associated with the festival. 

Many celebrities have also debuted freshly chopped bobs and slicked-back hairdos, while others have added volume to their fashion with bountiful waves. Ahead, WWD breaks down the best hair and makeup moments from French actress Céline Sallette, Model of the Year Alex Consani and more. 

Zoey Deutch

Outside the premiere of her upcoming film “Nouvelle Vague,” Zoey Deutch paid homage to her character, Jean Seaberg, by resurrecting a famous 1960s hairstyle: a short bob with tight curls. Her bangs were teased and slicked to the side of her head, complementing her tiered custom silk organza Chanel gown. Deutch’s hairdo comes amid an uptick in 1960s fashion and beauty references on the red carpet.

Leomie Anderson

Leomie Anderson showed up to the premiere of “Highest 2 Lowest” with a stiff, sculptured updo akin to that of an Olympic artistic swimmer. Floating pieces of her messy bun were flattened, twisted and curled straight up and to the side. The style was designed and executed by hair cosmetologist Lesley-ann Snobb.

Dakota Johnson

Dakota Johnson mirrored the fringe on her bubblegum pink Gucci gown with extra-long, straightened hair and her trademark bangs. Her hairstylist, Mark Townsend, said no extensions were used to create the “timeless straight style,” only “healthy shiny hair that’s all hers.” The first thing he did to create the sleek look was massage Nurtafol’s Hair Serum – made with Ashwagandha exosomes, iris moss peptides, pea sprout extract – into Johnson’s ends.

Livia Nunes

For the “Nouvelle Vague” premiere, Livia Nunes donned a slicked-back pony with the tail brushed and pinned around the top of her head like a pillbox hat. The model’s style was crafted by Brazilian hair artist Claudio Belizario.

Céline Sallette

French actress Céline Sallette stuck to her signature, side-swept fringe and golden waves for the premiere of “Highest 2 Lowest.” Sallette has worked with hairdresser Frédéric Birault and his brand, Cut By Fred, for past Cannes Film Festivals, however, it’s not certain he did her hair this year.

Alex Consani 

Model Alex Consani made her Cannes red carpet debut in a smokey amber eye look created by YSL Beauty’s new global makeup artist, Sam Visser. The 25-year-old beauty architect used a range of products from the luxury brand’s line, including their Couture Mini Clutch Palette in 800 Over Doré and 710 Over Brun, the Eyeliner Line Liberated in shade 02, and the Lash Clash Mascara in black. Consani’s lips were coated with the Loveshine Lipstick in shade 214 and the Loveshine Plumping Oil Gloss in shade 01.

Rihanna

Rihanna arrived on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet with bronzed cheeks, highlighted brow bones, and a nude lip. The look was likely created by Priscilla Ono, the global makeup artist for her brand, Fenty Beauty.

Alba Rohrwacher

Alba Rohrwacher wore red lipstick with pink undertones to the premiere of “The Phoenician Scheme.” Apart from the color on her lips, her makeup was light and natural, with only a thin layer of blush and highlighter swept on the cheekbones. Her makeup was done by artist Niki Pinna.

Bella Hadid 

Bella Hadid posed outside the “Partir Un Jour” premiere with a caramel-colored bronzer contouring her face, brown eyeshadow in her crease, and pitch black eyeliner on her lid and in her waterline. Her makeup artist, Nadia Tayeh, embellished these warm-tones with a pale nude lip.

Ariana Greenblatt

Ariana Greenblatt showed up to the premiere of “Eddington” with cat-eye eyeliner, wispy lashes and cool-toned blush. Her short, winged eyeliner on the lid was mirrored on the outer edge of her waterline and accentuated with tiny specks of white. Greenblatt partnered with makeup artist Jennifer Laney Tioseco and L’Oréal Paris for her festival visage.
