The emotional drama is of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, and a video of its premiere was recently shared by its official IG handle. Well, Karan Johar became all emotional as his home production and Neeraj Ghaywan’s feature film, Homebound got a standing ovation.

Recently, a video was posted from Dharma Production’s official IG handle, wherein the movie, Homebound was seen getting a standing ovation at the Cannes. The video featured Neeraj Ghaywan, Karan Johar, Janhvi Kapoor, and Ishaan Khatter among others. As per the caption, Homebound got a 9-minute long standing ovation at the Cannes 2025 as it premiered under the Un Certain Regard Award category. It was Karan Johar who was seen all emotional as his home production got all the love and applause. He was seen hugging director, Neeraj Ghaywan while becoming teary-eyed as Homebound got the love.
Karan Johar talked about Homebound making it to Cannes
In an interview with Variety, Karan Johar talked about Homebound making its place at Cannes. He said that for him, this platform is like the holy grail of world cinema. He further recalled being at Cannes with Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee, and Zoya Akhtar. KJo said that as his home production could officially make it to Cannes, it’s nothing short of a cinematic dream for him. Karan Johar said:
“To me, it’s the holy grail of world cinema, literally the temple of world cinema. I was there in a film that was an anthology with ‘Bombay Talkies’ [2013]… with Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee, and Zoya Akhtar, Now, many years later, properly with an officially selected film with the beautiful golden leaf settled on our poster with Mr. Scorsese being the executive producer… I feel like it’s living a cinematic dream.”

For the unversed, Homebound features Janhvi Kapoor as ‘Sudha Bharti’, Ishaan Khatter as ‘Mohammed Shoaib Ali’, and Vishal Jethwa as ‘Chandan Kumar’, in the lead roles. The movie is about two childhood friends pursuing their dreams to be police officers to get hold of the dignity and respect they were denied. But as they move closer to fulfilling their dreams, the desperation breaks the bridge between them, and they drift apart.
The movie is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions along with Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra. American filmmaker, Martin Scorsese, along with Pravin Khairnar is the executive producer of the movie, while Marijke deSouza and Melita Toscan du Plantier are co-producers.

Janhvi Kapoor turned heads with her gorgeous looks at Cannes 2025. Along with her, the entire team of Homebound was present, and all of them appeared together on the red carpet on May 20, 2025. Janhvi opted for Tarun Tahiliani’s dress, while Ishaan opted for Gaurav Gupta. On the other hand, Karan Johar made a striking appearance in Manish Malhotra’s ensemble. In a video, Homebound’s director, Neeraj Gheywan was seen carrying Janhvi’s long train and helping her. Well, the entire team looked delighted as they made it to Cannes.
