Singling out his mother as his inspiration, Abel Lopez said, “this collection pays homage to the character that brought me to life.” Reprising his usual deconstruction, the designer presented an array of dresses in silhouettes that spanned various decades, as well as tailored suits with shirting cut in interesting ways. A satin blouse unleashed delicate movements with a cape attached at the neck; repeated in a sheer animal print gauze, it looked slightly less formal, especially when paired with jeans in a khaki-gray wash.
What made this collection attractive was the intricacy in the construction of each piece: a strapless dress embraced the body as if a piece of fabric was simply wrapped around it, with a subtle dropped waist for emphasis; and a tight pencil skirt had an apron-like detail at the front. Other loose-fitting silhouettes in shades of yellow and green seemed to cater to more bohemian souls. Lopez certainly made his point about the woman he wants to dress: one that is dynamic in style but will choose elegance above all else.
