A suspended employee was arrested after allegedly stealing hard disks containing sensitive data from Telangana’s Raj Bhavan, triggering a police investigation.

The hard disks, which reportedly held licensed software, official documents, internal user IDs and passwords, and Information Technology inspection reports, were stolen from Sudharma Bhavan, within the Raj Bhavan premises in Hyderabad.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at Panjagutta Police Station on May 15, 2025, the offence occurred around 10.11 pm on May 14.

The accused, T Srinivas, was seen in CCTV footage entering the office premises wearing a helmet late at night, just hours after he had been suspended from duty at 8.10 pm on the same day.

The complaint was filed by N Rakesh, the Information Technology Manager at Raj Bhavan, after his colleague, network engineer Sri Sriram, noticed abnormalities with a computer system on the morning of May 15. The computer displayed a different user account and a blue screen, and further inspection revealed the original hard disk had been replaced.

Following the internal review and identification of the suspect in CCTV footage, Rakesh alerted higher officials and sought legal action. Sub-Inspector P Pradeep registered the case and assigned Sub-Inspector B Venugopal to conduct further investigation. The stolen hard disk was valued at Rs 5,000.
