With Kesari Veer set to hit the big screen on May 23, Sooraj Pancholi is gearing up for a significant return to cinema. The historical war drama, directed by Prince Dhiman and produced by Kanu Chauhan under the Chauhan Studios banner, will see Sooraj portraying Hamirji Gohil – an unsung warrior from Indian history. This role marks a major turn for the actor, who has faced several personal and professional hurdles since his debut.
Sooraj Pancholi on Kesari Veer: “Proud to stand strong despite all challenges”
In a recent conversation with Filmygyan, Sooraj spoke candidly about the journey so far. “Good things take time, and I have patiently accepted this instead of rushing into things. I waited for a film that would bring out the real actor in me, and would earn me respect in the eyes of the audience,” he shared.
Having made his debut with Hero in 2015 and previously working behind the scenes on films like Ek Tha Tiger, Sooraj’s filmography has seen a sporadic pace. However, he believes Kesari Veer could be a turning point. “There was no reason for me to say ‘No’ to Kesari Veer. I have always wanted to play a warrior and challenge myself with such a complex role,” he said.
He also reflected on his mother Zarina Wahab’s influence and how her advice helped him navigate the industry. “I still remember what my Mom had told me earlier. She’d said, ‘Film life is different, so keep your head down and let your work speak for you.’ And her words have helped me a lot in staying humble.” Sharing a personal moment that felt like a sign, he added, “Surprisingly, after I visited Somnath temple in Gujarat, I got Kesari Veer. There couldn’t have been a bigger blessing for me at this point of my life.”
The film also stars Suniel Shetty, Vivek Oberoi, and Akanksha Sharma. Sooraj will be seen sharing the screen with these actors for the first time. The film, which focuses on the valour of forgotten warriors, is expected to blend action with historical depth. Looking ahead, Sooraj remains grounded but optimistic. “After years, I am proud to stand strong despite all challenges, and let my work speak in the noise.”
Kesari Veer will release in cinemas on May 23, distributed by Panorama Studios worldwide.
