After a four-year break from the Tamil film industry, Ramya played the lead role opposite Rajinikanth in the 1999 film, Padayappa. During the shooting of Padayappa, Ramya worked with filmmaker, KS Ravikumar, and the duo became good friends. Soon they worked together in two more films, Paattali (1999) and Panchatanthiram (2002).

After ending her affair with Ravikumar, Ramya married filmmaker, Krishna Vamsi in 2003. The two have an age gap of eight years, and at the time of their marriage, Ramya was 33, and Krishna was 41. In 2005, the couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy, whom they named Ritwik Vamsi.
Over the years, Ramya Krishnan has won three Nandi Awards, a Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize, and four Filmfare Awards. Despite achieving all these heights in her career, Ramya has shown no signs of slowing down and keeps on signing big-budget films.
