Nancy Tyagi, who took social media by storm after her debut at Cannes 2024, where she sported a self-designed and self-made ruffled gown. Fashion critics, celebrities and everyone in the industry hailed her talent, and she received tremendous fame for her originality. Within the past year, Nancy has had multiple high-end brand deals and appeared in several prestigious events. However, the self-made fashion influencer is facing serious allegations that her much-celebrated second look at Cannes was not self-stitched as claimed, but bought for Rs. 25,000 from a designer fashion label in Mumbai.
Nancy Tyagi accused of lying about her Cannes 2025 outfit
On May 18, 2025, Nancy shared a series of pictures on her Instagram handle, showing off her blingy outfit in gold and beige for her second look at the Cannes 2025 Red Carpet. For the second day, Nancy arrived in a pearl-and-crystal embellished corset dress with a dramatic cape. In the caption, she shared how she ‘spent a month’ creating the ‘heavy’ outfit, leaving fans moved, and some even hailed her as India’s next big fashion expert. Her caption read:
“Ye colour meri mummy ka favourite hai, isliye iss baar decide kiya ki isi colour mein dress design karun. Isse banane mein poora one month laga, aur main last moment tak taiyaari mein lagi rahi, kyunki dress kaafi heavy thi. Dil se shukriya un sabhi ka jo is pyaari journey ka ek hissa rahe, aap sabke bina yeh moment vapis itna special nahi hota.”
Neha Bhasin calls Nancy out for striking similarity with her corset
While Nancy’s post was going viral, playback singer and former Bigg Boss 15 contestant, Neha Bhasin, stirred up a storm by sharing a side-by-side comparison of herself in a strikingly similar corset worn months earlier. Her not-so-subtle caption read:
“This corset looks too familiar, hmmm… Just wondering.”
In another Instagram Story, Neha declared, “Same same,” suggesting that Nancy may have passed off a store-bought look as her own creation. After the issue gained traction, Neha Bhasin shared a photo of the dress from The Source Bombay, a Mumbai-based rental boutique frequented by celeb stylists.

The anonymous fashion critique page, Diet Sabya, added that the store mainly stocks first-hand and second-hand copies of designer outfits, claiming that the original chain corset design belongs to The Blonds, whose owner said Nancy Tyagi didn’t copy it, but sourced it from them without giving due credit.
The Source Bombay confirms Nancy’s purchase of the corset
Amid all the brewing speculations, Surbhi Gupta, the founder of The Source Bombay, came out in support of Neha Bhasin’s claims. Speaking to The Free Press Journal, Surbhi confirmed in an interview that Nancy had purchased the corset dress from their boutique.
“Nancy claims she stitched it herself and all of that, but she bought it from us. She got it from our Mumbai store. We don’t have any problem. She purchased it, so she’s free to do what she wants with it. But it is our design. We didn’t do a barter or a collaboration. She did not stitch it herself, which she claims she did. The cape she wore doesn’t belong to me… that’s something she seems to have made herself, I guess.”
Netizens’ opinions on the corset drama
While Nancy Tyagi is widely praised for her exceptional fashion design skills, her failure to credit the original source, especially while showcasing the outfit on a global platform, has cast a shadow on her integrity as an artist. While some fans believe Nancy may have stitched the cape and merely styled the corset, others argue that her caption was misleading at best, as she should have known better to clarify the whole picture.
As of now, Nancy has remained tight-lipped on the matter, with no official response yet to Neha Bhasin’s allegations or Surbhi Gupta’s confirmation. What is your take on this matter?
