Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne remains coy about being a part of the upcoming Club World Cup with concerns about picking up an injury ahead of his departure from the former Premier League champions. De Bruyne is all set to leave City in the summer, but his contract is valid until June 30.

This means that he is eligible to play three Club World Cup matches in the United States. Howeve, the Belgian midfielder is concerned about taking care of himself ahead of a new chapter in his career. Speaking to Manchester Evening News, the Belgian asked what would happen to him if he picks up an injury during the tournament as he will be without a club after June 30.

“I think in a way I have to take care of myself because if I get injured in the Club World Cup, what am I going to do?” Nobody’s going to take care of me at that point. So there’s a big chance probably I won’t play it, but I dunno, maybe yes.” said De Bruyne.

    ‘I don’t make the rules’

De Bruyne said this is what would happen when a tournament is being played in the middle of the transfer window. The Belgian said that he doesn’t make the rules in the end and can’t do anything about. De Bruyne said in the end, he will have to take care of himself.

“The situation doesn’t make any sense, but I think that happens when you push in new tournaments in the middle of this contract situation. But I’m just a player. I don’t make the rules, I can’t do anything about it. So in the end, like I said, I’ll probably have to take care of myself which is a normal decision. We can speak about it but I don’t know,” said De Bruyne.

De Bruyne will leave City as a bonafide legend of the club after winning the Premier League six times and claiming the Champions League and Club World Cup in 2023.
