After starting his career with Massive Attack, Tricky went solo in the mid-’90s.

His first two albums are considered classics, but it was his third, Angels with Dirty Faces, that World Cafe correspondent John Morrison says made Tricky a legend.

“I think, with this record, Angels with Dirty Faces, they had to hang his jersey up in the rafters,” Morrison says. “This is somebody who is creating music that really has no peer.”

In this edition of Culture Corner, Morrison talks about how Tricky blended the blues, hip-hop, gospel and more to create an album that sounded like nothing else; about the record’s collaborations; and what makes Tricky such a fascinating, groundbreaking artist.

This episode of World Cafe was produced and edited by Kimberly Junod. The web story was created by Miguel Perez. Our engineer is Chris Williams. Our programming and booking coordinator is Chelsea Johnson and our line producer is Will Loftus.
