Four people have been arrested by Manipur police in connection with the kidnapping and extortion of two men who had travelled to the state from Delhi and Jaipur. The arrests were made on May 18 and 19.
According to the Manipur Police control room, the victims were deceived into coming to Manipur with the promise of receiving training for a networking business. Once they arrived in Imphal, they were abducted and held captive by the accused, who posed as armed goons.
The perpetrators allegedly issued death threats and demanded ransom, putting the victims’ lives in grave danger, the police said.
Imphal West Superintendent of Police, Ksh Shivakanta, confirmed that both victims were rescued safely and are now out of danger.
The arrested persons have been identified as Laishram Hellary Meetei, 35; Thangjam Lemba Singh, 27; and Nahakpam Naresh Singh, 28; all from Imphal West district.
The police have recovered a .32 pistol with one magazine and five live rounds, two gun licenses, a pocket knife, two mobile phones, and a four-wheeler car from the possession of the accused.
Further investigations are underway to determine if more individuals are involved in the case.
