Tanvi The Great, the drama film directed by Anupam Kher, recently premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2025. The film, which stars debutante Shubhangi Dutt in the lead role, was met with a positive reception from the audience at the Marché du Film in Cannes. Anupam Kher took to Instagram to express his heartfelt thanks to the viewers for their enthusiastic response and also shared an important update about the official release date of the film.

Sharing a video, Anupam Kher wrote in the caption, “I am deeply moved and overwhelmed by the emotional response of the audiences from all over the world last night at the #WorldPremiere of #TanviTheGreat. They all said it has a universal theme and it touched their hearts. They loved everything, especially the music of the film by the maestro @mmkeeravaani Sir. Waiting for all of you to witness the love, magic and labour of our film on 18th July!! See you in THEATRES. Love and prayers always. Jai Hind!”
In the video, the actor shared that the makers held a special 25-minute Q&A session after the premiere at the theatre, where the audience praised the film. He said, “Kal ke reaction se, main bohot santusht mehsoos kar raha hoon. Alag alag deshon ke log aaye the aur jab log kahein ki ye film bahut door tak jayegi to fingers cross karta hai insaan, Om Namah Shivaay bolta hai and meri unit bohot khush thi. Thank you for your love and for your blessings. I feel happy,” he said in the video.
The film is set to release in theatres on July 18. It also stars notable actors such as Boman Irani, Karan Tacker, Pallavi Joshi, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swamy, Game of Thrones actor Iain Glen, Nassar, and Anupam Kher himself, all in key roles.
According to Variety, Tanvi The Great tells the story of a 21-year-old girl with autism who uncovers her late Indian Army officer father’s unfulfilled dream of standing at Siachen, the world’s highest battleground, and saluting the Indian flag. Despite facing public criticism and institutional barriers against autistic individuals joining the military, she becomes determined to fulfil her father’s dream.
The film marks Anupam Kher’s second directorial venture, following his debut with Om Jai Jagadish in 2002.
