    Rains to lash several states from May 20 due to cyclonic activity in Arabian sea

    An upper cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over the east-central Arabian Sea in the coming days, potentially bringing widespread rain to several Indian states.

    According to forecasts, an upper air cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the east-central Arabian Sea, off the Karnataka coast, around May 21.

    The impact of this developing system is likely to begin on May 20 and continue until May 23, affecting Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. These regions may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall during this period.

    “Under its influence, a Low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region around 22nd May. Thereafter, it is likely to move northwards and intensify further. The upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Arabian Sea off south Gujarat 1.5 km above mean sea level Weather seasonal Rest Arabian sea persists,” the India Meteorological Department said.

    In Karnataka, Bengaluru is under a yellow alert with thunderstorms and rain expected through May 22, and temperatures ranging between 20–33 degrees Celsius. Gujarat is likely to continue experiencing pre-monsoon showers until May 23, with the monsoon expected to arrive early, possibly before June 15. In Kerala, an orange alert has been issued for parts of the state as the Southwest Monsoon brings heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, likely to persist through May 24.

    Meanwhile, the northern parts of the country are unlikely to be affected by this weather system developing in the Arabian Sea.
