Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill is delighted to evolve from his learning curve as a skipper in the 2024 season as GT stormed into the playoffs of IPL 2025. Gujarat beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by ten wickets at Arun Jaitley Stadium as they climbed to the top of the points table and sealed a berth in the top four.
As GT got the coveted ‘Q’ mark next to their name, Shubman Gill was elated to have led his team into the playoffs in his second season as captain. The opening batter mentioned that the last season was a learning curve for him as he was leading an IPL team for the first time.
“Feels great to be able to get that Q on the board. Still two important games for us, getting the momentum into the playoffs will be very important. Feels amazing, I have talked about this couple of times, when I’m batting, I want to play and think as a batsman, not as a captain. Last year was a learning for me as I was captain for the 1st time, the back end last season I learnt that,” Gill said in the post-match presentation.
Furthermore, Gill mentioned that they didn’t let their guard down as the tournament was suspended for a week and worked hard on their fielding.
“We were right back into the game, we were practising. Our fielding had been below-par, we had a bit of time to reflect on that and work on our fielding,” he added.
Gill scored an unbeaten 93* (53) with the help of three fours and seven sixes against Delhi Capitals. He got involved in a massive 205-run partnership with Sai Sudharsan as the duo helped their team chase down the target of 200 in 19 overs.
Following his century, Sudharsan returned to the top spot in the list of the leading run scorers of the season, having 617 runs to his name from 12 matches. On the other hand, Gill climbed to second spot with 601 runs from 12 games.
