Pitbull surprised Shakira‘s fans on Friday (May 16) by opening the Colombian superstar’s concert at MetLife Stadium with a rocker set of his own that included songs such as “Hotel Room Service,” Daddy Yankee’s “Gasolina” and guitar riffs of The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army.” The Cuban-American star was announced as a special guest, but it was not specified what role he would play.
Shakira kept the energy high on her second night in East Rutherford, N.J. In addition to Pitbull, Rauw Alejandro accompanied her as anticipated for their joint hit “Te Felicito.” The Puerto Rican artist didn’t sing the full version, but he did show off by dancing to the choreography. Another surprise of the night was Wyclef Jean’s reappearance for “Hip’s Don’t Lie,” after taking the stage with Shakira earlier in the week at the first concert of the U.S. leg of the Las Mujeres Ya No Llora World Tour in Charlotte, N.C.
On Thursday, in the first of her two concerts at MetLife, Ozuna was the special guest.
Both shows went off without a hitch in front of thousands of fans who were able to arrive despite the absence of New Jersey Transit public transportation to and from MetLife Stadium. The company suspended service due to a possible strike by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers rail workers union, which is seeking a labor contract for the transit agency’s locomotive engineers.
After making history in Latin America by breaking global box office records in March, Shakira began a North American tour this week that also includes stops in Chicago; Boston; Washington, D.C.; Miami; San Diego; Los Angeles and other cities, before concluding in San Francisco on June 30.
