Fashion influencer and content creator Uorfi Javed recently opened up about missing the Cannes Film Festival this year. She revealed that she had received an opportunity to attend the festival but couldn’t make it because her visa was rejected.
Uorfi Javed calls Cannes red carpet “an opportunity, not an achievement,” after visa rejection
On Friday, Uorfi posted a note on her Instagram story where she explained that walking the red carpet at Cannes should not always be seen as a major achievement. She shared that many influencers and celebrities attend the event through brand sponsorships or by purchasing tickets.
“Going to Cannes is an opportunity which isn’t based on your merit. Brands buy tickets to the red carpet and give them to influencers or celebrities to represent the brand. Individuals can also buy tickets. Walking the Cannes red carpet is not an achievement, not even for me. It’s an opportunity to promote yourself. That’s the truth,” Uorfi wrote.
She added, “Unless your film is being premiered at the festival (yeah then it’s an achievement), other than that, anyone can do it (if you have money or brands are ready to sponsor you).”
Earlier, Uorfi had also shared her disappointment over the visa rejection and mentioned that she was going through a tough phase. “I haven’t been uploading anything or been seen anywhere cause I was going through a phase. My business didn’t work. I tried a bunch of other different things only to face rejections,” she wrote.
She thanked Diipa Khosla and Kshitij Kankaria for offering her the Cannes opportunity through Indie Wild, despite the setback.
Trying to stay positive, Uorfi encouraged her followers to share their own stories of rejection and reminded them to keep going. “Every rejection is an opportunity if you look carefully. After so many rejections in life, I am not stopping and so should not you,” she added.
