Bollywood actress, Jacqueline Fernandez was seen putting up a brave front at the Cannes 2025. This was because recently she had lost her mom, Kim Fernandez and immediately after that she turned heads at the Cannes red carpet and was also honoured as the prestigious Women in the cinema related event. Amid all the glamour, Jacqueline got emotional and for the first time after the demise of her mom, the actress spoke about her in length.

Jacqueline, in a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, talked in public for the first time about her mom, Kim, who passed away on April 5, 2025, in Mumbai. The actress opened up about how difficult it was for her to cope with the loss of her mother. She shared that her mom was always her biggest supporter and cheerleader. Her mom would always want her to achieve a lot in her life. Jacqueline shared:
“I was lucky that I was able to spend the last few months with her. One always feels, ‘I wish I did more.’ ‘What could I have done more?’ And it takes a lot of time to come to terms with it. I don’t think I have come to terms with it.”

Jacqueline, going ahead in the interview, revealed that her mother has shown her a lot of support since the start. The actress confessed to coming from a humble family and being nervous to tell her family about her dreams related to acting. She agreed that she was pretty terrified to share with them about her acting aspirations. Jacqueline noted:
“We come from such a humble background that acting seemed like such a far-fetched dream. I was terrified to tell them it was what I really wanted. But when I finally did, around 18 or 19, there was no hesitation from her. She was my loudest cheerleader. Whatever I’ve faced in this industry, I know my parents felt it too. It takes incredible strength for parents to stand by you, especially when everything is so public. She was always proud of me—she just wanted me to keep going.”

Speaking of the actress, she was born in Manama, Bahrain and comes from a multicultural home. Her mom, Kim, had Malaysian and Canadian roots while her dad, Elroy Fernandez, hails from Sri Lanka. The actress, once in an interview, had also revealed how her mom and dad flew with her in Italy when she was shooting with Jean-Claude Van Damme. Jacqueline had shared that her parents were extremely proud to see her share the screenspace with her childhood role model. The actress noted that she could not believe that she was getting to do lines with him. In an interview with the same publication, she said:
“He was my icon. I think my entire family. We had this laser disc. My dad was hellbent that if we have to watch Jean Claude, we have to watch him on a laser disc. And cut to, I am on a set with him in Italy. We helped each other with lines. My parents came down and they were like, ‘We love our daughter. She made us proud.’ Life came full circle. At moments like this you feel it was all worth it–the struggle, the challenges, everything.”
