Former India coach Ravi Shastri had a hilarious message for Rohit Sharma after a stand was unveiled in his name at the Wankhede stadium on Friday, May 16. Rohit was honoured by the Mumbai Cricket Association on Friday for his contributions to cricket.
The Indian ODI captain’s parents did the honour by unveiling the stand in the name of their son. Along with Rohit, the MCA also honoured former India captain Ajit Wadekar and former BCCI president Sharad Pawar. There were many famous personalities present at the event, with Shastri being one of them. The former India coach shared a hug with Rohit before telling him in typical fashion to hit a six at the stand named after him.
“Smack one there,” said Shastri.
Rohit was seen laughing after hearing the comment from his former coach and responded,
“Ho jayega (It will happen),” said Rohit.

What Rohit said after the stand was unveiled
Speaking after the unveiling of the stand, Rohit said that he had never dreamt of having a stand named after him and it was a really special moment for him. Rohit said that he was super grateful to have his name alongside the legends of the game at the iconic venue.
“I had never dreamt of what was going to happen today,” Rohit said, visibly moved. “You try to achieve a lot of milestones, but something like this is really special, because Wankhede is an iconic stadium and so many memories have been made here.”
“To have my name here with the greats of the game and one of the world’s best political leaders, I cannot express the feeling. I am super grateful,” he added.
“It will be surreal to play when I play on 21st and have a stand here. It will be special when I represent the country here,” he said.
Rohit will be in action at the Wankhede stadium on May 21 for MI during their match against DC.
