Nitanshi Goel, the breakout star of Laapataa Ladies, made a powerful debut at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, representing young Indian cinema with a compelling blend of nostalgia, heritage, and haute couture. Her two standout looks at the festival were a visual celebration of both Bollywood’s golden era and India’s timeless craftsmanship.

For her first appearance at the Indian Pavilion, Nitanshi paid homage to the legendary actresses of Indian cinema—Madhubala, Rekha, Sridevi, Vaijayanti Mala, Hema Malini, Waheeda Rehman, and Nutan—through a truly unique hair accessory – a strand of pearls threaded with tiny photo frames, designed by Be Abhika, which turned her hair into a walking gallery of Indian cinema’s most iconic women, making it one of the most talked-about details of the day.
Complementing the tribute, Nitanshi wore an ethereal pre-draped ivory saree featuring a flowing trail and subtle design elements. Delicate bow embroidery, 3D floral accents, and ancient paisley motifs created using resist-dyeing techniques gave the ensemble depth and tradition. Her blouse, richly handcrafted with pearls and beads, echoed the look of vintage Indian heirloom attire. Accessories were kept elegant and minimal—a pair of dainty bow-shaped earrings with pearl drops and a single-strand pearl bracelet, allowing the outfit and her cinematic tribute to take centre stage. Goel was styled meticulously for this event by fashion duo Shrey and Urja.
For her grand red-carpet moment as she attended the screening of Dossier 137 on May 15, Nitanshi turned up the drama in a custom black and gold embroidered gown by Jade by Monica and Karishma. With a sheer black tulle base and intricate Kasab embroidery, the ensemble featured sculptural macrame elements and a regal silhouette with an exaggerated hip structure. The strapless neckline and long, flowing train added sensuality and fluidity to the fairy-tale-like ensemble. With her hair in a sleek ponytail and a glowing dewy base with a soft pop of colour on her lips, the look was styled to perfection. Understated yet elegant jewellery from CaratLane completed the ensemble, though a wrist accessory could have further elevated the red-carpet impact.
