Set to begin operations in September 2026, the 5.2-kilometre mono cable detachable gondola system will ascend 1,000 meters, connecting Dehradun to Mussoorie.
The ropeway will significantly reduce travel time between Dehradun and Mussoorie from approximately two hours by road to just 20 minutes.
This development is poised to enhance tourism and provide a convenient alternative to the often congested roadways leading to the popular hill station.
The project is a collaboration between FIL Industries, SRM Engineering, and French company POMA SAS.
The ropeway will operate year-round, featuring waterproof gondolas powered entirely by electricity. Adhering to European safety standards, the system will undergo regular inspections to ensure passenger safety.
Each cabin will accommodate up to ten passengers, offering automatic doors and ample ventilation for a comfortable journey.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND ECONOMIC IMPACT
By providing an eco-friendly mode of transportation, the ropeway aims to reduce carbon emissions associated with vehicular traffic.
Additionally, components manufactured in India will contribute to domestic industry growth and create job opportunities.
This ambitious project reflects Uttarakhand’s commitment to sustainable tourism and infrastructure development, promising to enhance the travel experience for both residents and visitors.
