Billie Eilish is confused by the online discourse around her 2025 Met Gala look… because it’s fake as she wasn’t even there.
The Grammy and Oscar winner took to her Instagram Story Wednesday night to react to people calling her outfit during fashion’s biggest night, which was seemingly generated by artificial intelligence, “trash.” Fans shared fake, digitally created looks of the singer on social media, where she appeared on the Met steps in an outfit for the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme.
“Seeing people talk about what I wore to this year’s Met Gala being trash — I wasn’t there, that’s AI. ” Eilish said with a laugh, while eating an ice cream cone. “I had a show in Europe that night. Let me be! I wasn’t even there!”
While the “Birds Of A Feather” artist has been to multiple Met Galas in the past (2021, 2022 and 2023), she was performing at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome on her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour this year while the event took place at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
This isn’t the first time an AI-generated Met Gala look went viral on social media. Last year, Katy Perry shared that a fake photo someone created of her at the event (which she didn’t attend) fooled even her own mother. She also posted it on her Instagram at the time, quipping, “Couldn’t make it to the MET, had to work.”
A fan did the same thing again this year, which Perry shared on her social media once again, writing, “Couldn’t make it to the MET, I’m on The Lifetimes Tour (see you in Houston tomorrow IRL) P.s. this year I was actually with my mom so she’s safe from the bots but I’m praying for the rest of y’all.”
Though Eilish and Perry weren’t in attendance this year, numerous other A-listers showed out at the 2025 Met Gala, including Colman Domingo, Zendaya, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, Gigi Hadid, Sydney Sweeney and Pharrell Williams. Check out some of the night’s best dressed here.
