The Cannes Film Festival has left several celebrities in a run for a new dress. With the new dress code disallowing nudity and extravagant dresses on the red carpet, jury member Halle Berry also fell victim to the rules and had to make some last-minute changes. The Hollywood icon revealed that the rules forced her to ditch her original outfit for the night.
Halle Berry ditches Gaurav Gupta’s dress because of the new rules at Cannes 2025
The Cannes Film Festival started off on a high note, with some of the biggest names gracing the festival. However, the opening came with a massive shock for the attendees. Cannes committee released a new set of dress codes for those making an appearance at the event, and Halle Berry was the first celebrity to get the heat because of it. The actress revealed that she was forced to leave her majestic gown in her wardrobe for the opening night because of the rules.
In a conversation with the media, the actress revealed that she had an amazing dress by Gaurav Gupta prepared for the night. However, the train was too big for the dress code, so she had to ditch the attire. For the unversed, Gaurav is an Indian designer who earlier dressed Kiara Advani for the MET Gala 2025 and Cardi B for the Cannes last year. Halle Berry added that she had to adhere to the rules and stated:
“I had an amazing dress by Gupta to wear tonight, but I cannot wear it because the train is too big.Of course, I’m going to follow the rules.”
Heidi Klum wore a three-metre-long train despite the rules
While some were left stranded by the new set of rules, others didn’t care to follow them. German model Heidi Klum, despite the ‘no long trains’ rule, wore a three-meter, that is, 10-foot-long train for her debut at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. However, she was not the only one who broke the dress code. Chinese actress and influencer, Wan Qianhui also appeared in an enormous white marshmallow mountain of white taffeta.

Cannes Film Festival’s new dress code
Cannes Film Festival left everyone panicked when they released a new set of rules for the event. The committee, for the first time, put the rules in writing and put a total ban on nudity on the red carpet. The Cannes red carpet has seen an increase in daring and revealing looks over the years. One of which was Bella Hadid’s sculptural Schiaparelli creation in 2021, which left the entire internet surprised. The spokesman told AFP:
“It is not about regulating what people wear but to ban total nudity on the red carpet, in line with French law.”
After years of rows and controversies, the Cannes Film Festival also shared their rules on footwear. For the unversed, several people had accused the festival of forcing women to wear high heels. However, the committee put the speculations to rest and revealed that the rule is to wear elegant shoes or sandals. The committee further clarified that the footwear can be with or without the heel as long as it adheres to elegance.
