Mrunal Thakur may be known for her on-screen strength and elegance, but in a recent conversation with Cosmopolitan India, it was her vulnerability and emotional depth that took centre stage. The actress opened up about her close bond with her family, her love for cars, and the deeply personal story behind the first luxury car she bought, driven by a promise she made to her mother as a child.

Mrunal Thakur says she’s the “first girl in the family to own a Mercedes” as she recalls promising her mother a “crazy car” at age 12

Recalling a defining moment from her early teens, Mrunal shared, “I remember one of the reasons why I’m so crazy about cars is because of my mom. When I was 12 or 13, she was not allowed to sit in one of our relative’s cars, and that really hit me.” That moment, etched in her memory, shaped a quiet determination in her. “In my head, I was like, ‘I’m going to have a crazy car for you, Mama. You just wait.’”

In February 2023, that promise came full circle. “We were just standing there and crying,” Mrunal said, describing the moment she gifted her mother a Mercedes. “And we were like, ‘Mom, can you believe it?’ I’m the first girl in the family to own a Mercedes.” Though she rarely flaunts her purchases, the milestone was deeply meaningful. “That day was so beautiful,” she said.

But beneath the glamour and the achievements lies a thoughtful voice advocating for emotional awareness. Mrunal reflected on how society often overlooks the importance of mental and emotional resilience. “Most people keep worrying about tomorrow or keep living in their past, and don’t live in the moment,” she said. “It’s important to be able to talk it out because most people don’t find it comfortable expressing themselves or even asking for help,” she added. “We are allowed to feel a lot of other emotions besides being happy…and it’s absolutely okay to feel a certain way.”

Speaking of the work front, the 32-year-old actress was last seen in a cameo role for Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD. She has a bunch of projects in her kitty, including Maddock Films-backed Pooja Meri Jaan, and Adivi Sesh’s Dacoit, among others.
