Nandini Gupta stunned in Gaurang Shah’s elegant ensemble, which had a story of 2 states
Nandini wore award award-winning fashion and textile design, Gaurang Shah’s elegantly designed ensemble at the Miss World 2025 opening ceremony. Her Indian attire had jamdani jugalbandhi of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. These are two states rich in diverse culture, and Nandini’s outfit honoured Indian craftsmanship. Gaurang blended two varied textile traditions that showcased the cultural story of India, filled with pride and elan. Nandini paid an ode to India’s cultural heritage as the fabric in her ensemble is handwoven. Speaking more of the outfit, Gaurang, in an interview with the New Indian Express, revealed:
“The base fabric is handwoven using charkha-spun khadi yarn, intricately interlaced with gold zari Jamdani in a leharia (wave) pattern. The highlight of the outfit is the exquisitely detailed border and palla, featuring the traditional Bangdi Mor motif — a design that depicts four peacocks dancing within a bangle. Set against a natural ivory base, the gold zari shimmers subtly, radiating grace and regality.”
Gaurang also shared that the uniqueness of the Indian attire was in the fusion of two varied textile crafts coming together distinctively. On one hand, there was the Jamdani technique that was used from the varied regions of the country, and on the other side, the outfit had the symbolic, Bangdi Mor motif that had a story related to artistry, tradition and cultural conversation beyond the realm of fashion.
Nandini Gupta’s fashion designer took three years to weave the textile of her attire
Gaurang, in the interview further shared that the weaving of the delicately detailed textile took three years. When Nandini’s team approached him for Miss World, he immediately envisioned this piece on her. It captivated the timeless Indian craftsmanship, perfectly suited for an international stage. A dedicated team of eight master artisans from Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra collaborated to bring this masterpiece to life.
