Govinda, born as Govind Arun Ahuja, is an actor and politician. The actor has done 150+ films in his acting career and is known for his satirical performances and dance skills. He was the leading actor throughout the 90s. However, his presence in modern-day cinema has drastically declined. Govinda was last seen in Sikander Bharti’s 2019 comedy-drama, Rangeela Raja. Talking about his absence, the actor’s wife, Sunita Ahuja, spoke to Zoom and made some surprising revelations.

Sunita Ahuja is known for her unfiltered opinions, whether about the rest of the industry or her own family. Her interview with Zoom was no different, as she criticised the veteran star for not working. During the interview, Sunita shared examples of other Bollywood actors of Govinda’s age who were actively working while the actor was ruining his life by not going out and acting. It has been six years since Govinda was last seen on the big screen, and his wife, Sunita Ahuja, is wondering why a legend like him is sitting at home. She revealed that she often asked her husband why an actor as talented as him was not working, while others his age were constantly getting work. She was quoted as saying:
“Why is a legend like you sitting at home? Actors of your age are doing so much work, including Anil Kapoor, Suniel Shetty, and Jackie Shroff. Why don’t you work?”
Sunita Ahuja blames Govinda’s friends for his absence from the big screen
Govinda was one of the most commercially apt actors in Hindi cinema during the 90s and early 2000s. However, post-2008, there has been a massive downfall in his stardom. The actor has tried making a comeback by playing supporting roles in films like Raavan and Kill Dil, but his career never got the second boost he was looking for, and it seems as if the actor has retreated to an inactive zone as he hasn’t appeared in any films after 2019.
Sunita Ahuja called Govinda’s friends out for his absence on the big screen. During the same conversation, she revealed that the company the actor has been keeping has played a major role in his not being able to make a comeback. She added that his buddies wouldn’t tell him that the audience was no longer into the 90s-style films. She even claimed that they were running his life for some money, and urged them to tell Govinda to lose weight or look handsome. She was quoted as saying:
“Uski zindagi barbaad kyu kar rahe ho do kaudi ke paison ke lie? Tell him to lose weight or look handsome.”

Sunita Ahuja and Govinda first met when the actor was in his final year of B.Com, and Sunita was in grade nine. She was staying at the house of her sister, who was coincidentally married to Govinda’s maternal uncle. The two soon started interacting, and their bond developed into something more. They tied the knot in 1986 and welcomed two kids together. While there have been rumours of their divorce in recent times, Sunita has denied even considering to part ways with the actor.
