Virat Kohli, often referred to as the King of Indian cricket, never skips a chance to win the hearts of cricket fanatics. The cricketer recently announced his retirement from Test cricket, leaving his fans and peers upset. But the incredible journey the cricketer left behind has been praised by everyone, one of them being Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. On the day Virat announced his retirement from Test Cricket, Sachin recalled one of the most adorable gestures of the former.

Sachin Tendulkar recalls Virat Kohli giving him his late father’s thread on the former’s last Test

Taking to his IG handle, a while ago, Sachin Tendulkar dropped a photo of Virat Kohli, donning the Number 18 Test cricket uniform. In the note, Sachin revealed Virat’s adorable gesture. Master Blaster shared that seeing Virat retiring from Test cricket, 14 years after his debut, reminded him about the last Test of him. On the last day of Sachin’s Test, Virat gifted Master Blaster his late father’s thread.

Sachin said although that time it felt too personal for him to accept the gift, it has always been with him ever since. He further praised Virat for his inspiring journey in Test cricket and said that although he doesn’t have any thread to give to Virat, he has the deepest admiration for King Kohli. Sachin acknowledged the fact that Virat’s legacy will be an inspiration for several young cricketers, and this is what he has given to the nation apart from his incredible runs. In Sachin’s words:

“As you retire from Tests, I’m reminded of your thoughtful gesture 12 years ago, during my last Test. You offered to gift me a thread from your late father. It was something too personal for me to accept, but the gesture was heartwarming and has stayed with me ever since. While I may not have a thread to offer in return, please know that you carry my deepest admiration and very best wishes. Your true legacy, Virat, lies in inspiring countless young cricketers to pick up the sport. What an incredible Test career you have had! You have given Indian cricket so much more than just runs – you have given it a new generation of passionate fans and players. Congratulations on a very special Test career.”

Robin Uthappa recently recalled the day when Virat Kohli batted despite his father’s demise

Not a single one is there who is unfamiliar with Virat Kohli’s passion for cricket, and his strength in doing what he does. So much so that even after the day his dad, Prem Kohli, died, Virat picked up his bat and scored 80 runs during the Delhi Ranji Trophy. Recently, Robin talked about the day when Virat batted the day after his father passed away. Talking to KimAppa show, Robin said that they got to know about the then-young player, Virat’s father’s demise, and they needed an extra fielder for the match, but the cricketer showed up with his bat, and the rest was history.

Robin talked to him for 30 seconds on the same day to offer condolences, and Virat was sweet about it, but the way his eyes were back on that day was something different. Robin said it wasn’t the fire that Virat generally holds while batting, but it was a bit like an ember, the way he was keeping everything in check. Talking more about it, Robin mentioned:

“But when he batted that day, there was something about his eyes and the way he batted… very resolute when he batted, very few emotions, very resolute. Not like the burning fire we see Virat batting with, it was, it was more like an ember, you know what I mean? It was just like steady and controlled and keeping everything in check, something very beautiful, I felt. I sensed that time, about a youngster dealing with the demise of his father, and still turning up to play for his state, something very beautiful about it.”

In the same interview, Robin Uthappa mentioned that it was phenomenal the way Virat played the innings that day, which was more than cricket. Robin mentioned that he could remember the way Virat held himself, and it was the day when Robin could see the greatness and thirst in Virat Kohli. Following this, they became friends while playing in RCB and for team India.

What do you think about Virat Kohli’s gesture for Sachin Tendulkar, and the latter’s adorable note for him?
