Harshvardhan Rane and Pakistani actress, Mawra Hocane made their Bollywood debut in 2016 with the romantic drama, Sanam Teri Kasam. However, the film failed at the box office but gained popularity as an underrated gem upon its release on OTT. While the film did spectacularly during the re-release, the actress, Mawra Hocane, came under the wrath of the Indian audience for her statement on ‘Operation Sindoor’. It seems like she has been removed from the film’s digital posters as well.

It seems like the Indian audience doesn’t want Pakistani artists on their music covers as well. After Pakistani artists were restricted on Indian social media, the turn has now come for the covers, with films featuring faces from across the borders quietly removing them from the movie’s assets. It was on May 11, 2025, when it was reported that the album of Sanam Teri Kasam, which initially featured Harshavardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, had removed the latter and now only featured the Indian actor.

The Pakistani actress, Mawra Hocane’s face was removed from the film’s cover on Spotify and YouTube Music. Hindustan Times reached out to the film’s producer about the changes. However, he revealed that he had no knowledge about this, but whatever the government says will be followed. He was quoted as saying:
“They didn’t ask me, it’s their decision. Whatever our government says, everyone has to follow.”
Mawra Hocane’s Sanam Teri Kasam co-star, Hashvardhan Rane also reacted to the Pakistani actress’ face being removed from the album covers. He quipped that now it will be said that his PR team got this done. However, one can use common sense to understand what is being done. He was quoted as saying:
“Now they will say that my PR team got this done! No, it’s again common sense, I assume; weeding is being exercised.”

The digital fallout between Sanam Teri Kasam co-stars, Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, started when the actor took a stand against working in the film’s sequel if the old cast was involved, which seemed like a dig at the Pakistani actress. This statement from Harshvardhan came after Mawra slammed India for ‘Operation Sindoor’, which was carried out in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack on April 22, 2025. Marwa further fired back and called Harshvardhan out for using such a volatile situation as a PR stunt. However, on May 11, 2025, Harshvardhan once again took to his Instagram stories and, without taking any names, called the actress out and stated:
“That sounded like an attempt at a personal attack. Fortunately, I have the tolerance to overlook such attempts – but I have zero tolerance for any attack on my nation’s dignity. An Indian farmer would pluck out the unwanted weed from his crop—it’s called weeding. The farmer doesn’t need a PR team for this act, it’s called common sense. I simply offered to step down from Part 2. I am fully within my rights to choose not to work with individuals who label my country’s actions as ‘cowardly.’ So much hate in her speech, so many personal remarks. I never mentioned her name or resorted to calling her names. I didn’t attack her dignity as a woman. I intend to maintain that standard”

A similar situation has been observed with Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan’s film, Raees’ song, Zaalima. The album cover across YouTube, YouTube Music and Spotify no longer has any trace of Mahira and features SRK solo. This is being seen as a crackdown on the presence of Pakistani artists in Indian projects, in light of the recent tensions between India and Pakistan after the recent developments.
