The ongoing India-Pakistan tensions took away another life of a brave soldier, Surendra Kumar, who was posted at Udhampur airbase. Surendra was a resident of Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu and worked in the Indian Air Force, as a medical sergeant. Surendra took his last breath when he was on duty in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur airbase, which came under a Pakistani drone attack on May 10, 2025. Surendra is survived by his wife, an 11-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son. A huge crowd gathered at Surendra’s hometown on May 11, 2025, to pay tribute to the brave soldier while his body was brought home with a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ from Mandawa, Rajasthan to his village Mehradasi in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu.

Earlier, she spoke to the media, showing pride in her father, who tried to protect the nation from Pakistan. She said:

Vartika also shared that she wanted to be a brave soldier like her father when she grew up to avenge her father’s death. She said that she wanted to erase every existence of the neighbouring country. She expressed her grief by stating that she wanted to finish everyone who was involved in the shelling. Addressing the same, she said:
“Pakistan should be finished entirely. There shouldn’t even be a mention of Pakistan. I want to become a soldier like my father and avenge his death. I will finish them off one by one.”

More about Indo-Pak tensions
For the unversed, the tensions started when India’s ‘Mini Switzerland’, Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam, came under attack and cost the lives of 26 civilians on April 22, 2025. Following the heinous Pahalgam incident, India did a counter-attack, Operation Sindoor. After four days of precision missile strikes, India and Pakistan agreed to halt every military action on land, air and sea, announcing a ceasefire on May 10, 2025. But Pakistan violated the agreement by shelling along the Line of Control from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat. The Indian authorities have reported that from May 11, 2025 morning, everything has been under control, and the hostilities have ceased. However, the Indian armed forces are still in strong vigilance and have the orders to deal with any kind of violations from the neighbouring country in a befitting manner.
Our heartfelt condolences to Surendra Kumar’s family.
